THE RIVIERA OF MAKARSKA
Long beaches in the shade of pine trees and Biokovo, the highest mountain along the Croatian coast, are the main elements of the landscape of the Makarska Riviera. This part of the central Dalmatian coast extends over approximately 60 kilometers.
In addition to its two kilometer long beach and promenade, Makarska also offers the malacological museum in which you can visit an interesting and unique collection from the Adriatic and the world seas. It is considered one of the most beautiful and most opulent malacological museums in the world. Sportsmen and hikers can choose one of the sports activities on the sea and on land. Health tourism is also developed here, in the Biokovka health house, where numerous therapeutic services are offered. Makarska rafioli, a shortcrust pastry dessert that would also have aphrodisiac effects, have become famous in gastronomy. Among the traditional sweets of this area is the Makarana cake, which has been included in the list of intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia.
