Stari Grad (Cittavecchia) is one of the oldest cities in Croatia, of the same age as Aristotle. In the same year, 384 BC, when the famous Greek philosopher was born in Thrace, the Greeks of the island of Pharos in the Aegean Sea founded the city on the island of Hvar (Hvar), and called it Pharos.
The historic center of the island of Hvar, the ancient Pharos (Cittavecchia), was built in the place where the deep sea of the bay turns into a fertile field of the island, the valley of Arcadia, cultivated with vineyards and olive groves since ancient times . Surrounded by pine forests, and cooled in the summer with mistral, the Stari Grad is on hot summer days a rare place in Dalmatia with fresh air and pleasant dreams.
Thanks to its central position on the island, it has been for centuries a shelter for sailors – old citizens were waiting for him on the seafront – and today the island is an obligatory place of visit for sailors who sail along the Adriatic. The capacity for private accommodation – apartments, rooms and private homes, is found above all on the northern part of the Stari Grad bay, at the foot of the Glavica hill.
The old part of the city remains preserved in the sense of traditional architecture, and, as such, has an exceptional tourist value; the natives have renovated the old stone houses, and offer a subsequent combination of modern accommodation with the spirit of bygone days, the municipality of modern and traditional.
Stari Grad, Hvar On the southern part of the bay, along the coast, there is a row of buildings from the Austro-Hungarian period, and behind it there are solitary houses with gardens. From the southern part of the bay, between the center and the Lanterna city beach, lies the village Borić, with about 30% of the total accommodation capacity in the Stari Grad. The village is located in the pine forest, about a hundred meters from the Lantern.
This part of the city is also very interesting for tourist accommodation and for the proximity of the city beach and the center, only a hundred meters away.
The Stari Grad is an ideal starting point for long walks and excursions on the sunniest and most fragrant island of the Adriatic. The comfortable private accommodation, cellars and restaurants with home-made food, traditionally good wines of the island, guarantee an unforgettable holiday.
